The ironic thing is, Kenneth Mars looked old enough to play McKay's father. Some people age better than others.
Thats why TM looks great at 64!
I just don't give a damn!

Yes, and as I've mentioned before, Higgins is at least 15 years older than Hillerman. Mosley and Hillerman are only a couple of years apart.

Mars also appeared in the movie Young Frankenstein as the character Inspector Kemp. (He was the one that played darts with Gene Wilder's character and stuck the darts in his arm before he threw them.)

He was also in Tales from the Gold Monkey and Battlestar Galactica... which I'm sure you all already knew.

When I first heard about Jeff MacKay's death, I was devastated. It felt like the end of an era.

I wrote a little about him at my blog (I have a couple of Magnum or TS centric posts):

http://madefortvmayhem.blogspot.com/200 ... -2008.html

He actually has a small but VERY memorable part in a TV movie called Midnight Offerings that I want to review. I wrote this obit before I knew how to do screencaps and I was really pressed for time. I think I need to combine a better tribute with my review of that TV movie...

Thanks for stopping by!

I'm a big fan of Retro TV. Right now I'm on a HUGE Dallas kick (finally up to Season 9!), and I don't watch enough new stuff.

It's amazing how I can watch Magnum over and over again. I don't even do that with the X-Files which is probably my second favorite show.

I want to do Pilot Week and do the first Magnum episode among others... I need to get going!

Amanda, love your blog! I've "favorite-d" it. I can't wait to check out the rest of it. Long live the 70s and 80s! :)

Jeffs face, look and mannerisims sort of sum up the 80's for me. He just seemed like a great guy and someone with a kind heart.

Quite a few of our Magnum PI stars have passed in recent years.
It would be great if there was a "Memorial Section" on James site.
Sorry James for adding to your work load!

fyi.....for those who are interested and are Mac Fanz, Tales Of Gold Monkey is available on DVD now....a quick one click at amazon. $29 for all the episodes and extras that I wish were on the MPI sets. A nice remembrance tribute to Jeff as well on the packaging.
