"Let the Punishment Fit the Crime" was last week. Another solid episode. Chris Mitchum was kind of wasted in a rather small role (does he even say a single word?) but he did have a pretty impressive drag-out fighting with Magnum. The series keeps impressing me with its ability to provide twists and turns and surprises that I didn't see coming. The teaser leads us to believe that Chris Mitchum is the assassin (which he sort of is) and that he's taking a shot at someone on the estate. Of course in the actual episode he's nowhere near the estate and the real assassin ends up being someone else. Very clever!
Oh, and then there's the
"Three little girls from school are we..." number.
Don’t forget Rick and TC losing big money playing bridge with the old ladies who were the other two maids. Rick’s participation is based on that. LOL!!!

Holmes is Where the Heart Is
Overall this was a very good episode. My first time seeing it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Hillerman and MacNee had excellent chemistry and it all just came together very nicely. There's humor but also sadness at the end. A perfect mix. Also gotta love Mag's shenanigans trying to get into Higgy's study. The part where he rigs the hammer to break the wine cabinet was like something elaborate out of a COLUMBO episode.
The Walker Estate (it's not there on the main page for this episode, in the filming locations section) is the residence of the deceased Sir Alec Ramsey. It's the same residence that was seen back in season 1's "Curse of the King Kamehameha Club" as Lew Ayres' residence. It's also the mansion that Magnum inherits in "Of Sound Mind". I'm sure there are more episodes that feature this house. It's pretty easily recognizable.
Then the house on Old Pali Rd. across the Marks Estate (which was the exterior of the KKC driveway) is the residence of Hoon and Victor Ching. That location IS mentioned on the main page of this episode.

On Face Value
Really surprised by this one! One of the best of the season and even the series!! Talia Balsam, Marty Balsam's daughter?? Wow! And she was married to George Clooney? Who knew?
I thought that guy never married.
A very strong emotional (with some funny humor here and there) episode which has probably the best car chase of the entire series!! Wow! I thought I was watching an 80s action movie!! Great stuff. Come to think of it I don't think we had a great car chase since the pilot episode. Crazy if you think about it. But the Ferrari vs the GTO was aces!! Kudos to the stunt crew on that one. Speaking of which, the 2 guys who played the Kiedash brothers were stuntmen so I have no doubt they played a big part in putting together that car chase.
I thought the previous 2 episodes were great ("Punishment Fit the Crime" and "Holmes is Where the Heart Is") but this one easily topped those two. Looking forward to the last 2 of the season.
Overall I would rank season 4 on par with season 3, "Did You see the Sunrise?" (best episode of the series) notwithstanding.

Tonight I am catching up on a couple of episodes that I hadn't seen yet. I just finished "Holmes is where the heart is," and am about to watch "On Face Value." I have just bought an Oculus Quest (gen1) so I am watching tonight's episodes with the Bigscreen app. Very neat interface.

Maybe I'm the only one still following along with the 40th anniversary... ? I think I watched "Dream a Little Dream" recently, but I know I still need to watch "I Witness."

I finished season 4 already.
"Dream a Little Dream" was pretty good with the past/present transitions being a particular highlight for me - Roger E. Mosley did a great job in the director's chair with those transitions scenes.
"I Witness" was pretty good too. Not a classic as some say, simply because we don't see enough Hawaii in this one (it's all set-bound) and the Rashomon type story is nothing new. We've seen it in many other shows. But it did provide some chuckles and the Keoki reveal was pretty unexpected. Also Frank McRae (48HRS, Licence to Kill, Lock Up, Last Action Hero) playing the Pig was pretty cool. He has that unmistakable voice that's a bit too high for a guy as big and hefty as he is.
I didn't pick up on his voice right away but when I saw his name (uncredited) on IMDB it all made perfect sense.

Rating the first 4 seasons is a bit tough. They've all been pretty solid. One thing I'll say about season 4 is that it doesn't have that one single episode that can match the greatness of the pilot or "Memories Are Forever" or "Did You See the Sunrise?". All 2-part episodes by the way. Season 4 doesn't have any. That may be part of it. There's a certain "importance" or "depth" to those 2-part episodes which I guess they can't quite squeeze into a 1-hour episode. I know that "Home from the Sea" comes close, as does "Distant Relative". I also really liked "The Look" and "On Face Value" which also had good dramatic depth. But they still don't quite hit the high marks of those above mentioned 2-parters. I guess I'll see how the season 5 opener with Sharon Stone (a 2-parter) fares in comparison to the other 2-parters. I know it's a more serious entry which I always welcome.

Sharon Stone is very good in it. This was long before most people knew her name. I remember when I saw Basic Instinct, my first thought was about her role in MPI. It was the only other thing I had seen her in at the time.

That's interesting because by that point in 1992 she had already been in several films, like KING SOLOMON'S MINES (as the leading lady), POLICE ACADEMY, ABOVE THE LAW, ACTION JACKSON, and especially the high-profile TOTAL RECALL where she played the villainess (also for Paul Verhoeven).

Total Recall (the 1990 one, not the remake) is one of my favorite movies. I love it because even though I've seen it several times, I still don't know what's real and what's the implanted memories. It's great! I really like that kind of movie.

She had, but Basic Instinct was huge! She was all over the massive promotional campaign. She hosted SNL as a result. It was her first feature film lead actress hit. The Richard Chamberlain King Solomon’s Mine was not the hit that the earlier Stewart Granger film was, nor was its sequel. The Police Academy film was late in the franchise, and Total Recall was a small part. I recently saw her both a Remington Steele episode and one from Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer, which were good, but also small. Basic Instinct was easily her breakout role.

TOTAL RECALL is a really weird film for me. Not sure what to make of it. Somewhere in there I feel is a smart film but it's too bizarre for my tastes. Not saying I didn't like it but it was "different". I prefer Arnold's more straight-forward sci-fi fare like the TERMINATOR films or PREDATOR. Actually the best thing about TR was Jerry Goldsmith's superb score!!

I am late to the party, but this sounds like a great idea. I'm watching my way through about 1 a week, but like the idea of watching together.

I'm still watching. Is anyone else? Sitting down today to watch season 5 eps 1-3. Echoes of the Mind isn't one of my favorites, but it is fascinating.
