Re: Season's Greetings

Merry Christmas all! Thanks for another great year of camaraderie. I sure love all the Magnum insights, comments and observations, but I also really appreciate everyone's positivity on this forum. Looking forward to a new, great year.

Re: Another anniversary write-up on Magnum

I always get such mixed-up, bungled-up feelings when it comes to anything political in our country anymore, maybe I'm just too much of a malcontent to respect either the "conservative" or "liberal" camp enough to consider either as my political home, or as emblems of my "values." That's kinda my dis...

Re: Dec 11, 1980

Great idea and count me in! I just received the complete set of DVDs at the end of last week, (an early Christmas present for myself!) and I'm in the middle of season one. Thought my Magnum obsession would fade by now, but it only gets worse, or better, depending on how you look at it. Merry Christm...

Re: RIP Robert Loggia

Hearing the sad news of Mr. Loggia's passing chased me to watch Magnum's pilot again. Man, was he great as La Bulle, or what? Mr. Loggia was only in the second part of the pilot, and his presence still helped launch Magnum PI into the stratosphere by providing the first episodes with such a great fo...

Re: Favorite scene and favorite episode

I think my favorite scene has come to be the one where Thomas is counting Higgins doing sit-ups in "Computer Date." That scene really sums up the friendship between Thomas and Higgins that makes Magnum such a cherished show to me. Just love how Thomas is drinking a beer as he counts, and how Higgins...

Re: Was Magnum a Navy SEAL?

I think Magnum mentions that he learned hallucinations when diving could be symptoms of oxygen deprivation through his Navy SEAL training in season six's episode "Rapture." That is the instance that immediately pops into my head as a place to go to hear Thomas talking specifically about his SEAL day...

Re: The Larry Manetti Thread

I live in Southern Illinois, grew up close to St. Louis, so I am a very spoiled Cardinals fan. I was afraid that if the Cubs won the World Series that Chicago would burn to the ground in all the celebration rioting - and then that my state tax dollars would go to rebuilding the city after the Cubs c...

Re: The Equalizer

This is one of those shows I want to go back and explore. I remember catching several episodes back in my junior high days, and I remember that the intro always hooked me. I was disappointed that the show wasn't marketed much more on a new run of dvds or pushed up onto Netflix or Amazon at the time ...

Re: Black on White (3.6)

Hey Gang! I just listened to a podcast produced by the folks at Radiolab concerning British secret documents and the Mau Mau resurrection in Kenya during the late 50s. Listening to this podcast made me immediately think of this Magnum PI episode. I felt the podcast really shed some light on some of ...

Re: What are you reading?

Hi again Danno Thanks for the review of Armada. That doesn't surprise me. Though I thought Ready Player One was a lot of fun, it's structure was really pretty standard for the current books the publishers are putting out for science fiction these days. I find it hard to find really original, new stu...

Re: Is Jonathan Higgins Robin Masters?

I can't help it. I have to jump into the classic "Is Higgins Robin Masters Debate." If you follow the show's logic, especially when Bellasario was really still leading the parade, I think there's absolutely no doubt, at all, that Robin and Higgins are two separate characters. Higgins and Robin share...

Re: Limited Engagement (4.5)

That snotty, bratty little kid at the Tempest arcade game in the convenient store is one of my favorite "background" characters throughout the series. It's because that kid's age would've been the age I think I would've been when this episode first aired. And like that bratty kid, I would've caused ...

Re: Echoes of the Mind (2) (5.2)

I think there's something humorous about how people who so love one show can have such different opinions of individual episodes. Looking through all these entries on this forum, I've learned that some of my favorite episodes are some of the very same shows that others just don't like at all. Well, ...
