Re: Luther Gillis: File #521 (4.2)
What specifically wouldn't work today?
Well, the tone is a little too far out there. It all worked for me, but the musical cues (like when Luther interrupts HIggins in the middle of the episode), Luther's manner of speaking AND his narration, and even the scene at the end where Lut...

Re: L.A. (1) (7.1)
Yeah, there are a lot of 80's shows I still like, but the writing style was so different then that even some of my "favorites" I can only take in small doses. It's amazing to me that I can watch MPI over and over and still enjoy it every time!

Re: L.A. (1) (7.1)
I can't lie, I often feel weird posting to a thread started so long ago and with the last reply so many years ago, but I'm doing my re-watch in order, so here we go... I think all the detractors of this episode are almost completely right. The B-plot in Hawaii is yawn-worthy and stale, it's got a se...

Re: Jay wants a movie
They’ve got me hoping for a movie now! I’m only a third through this last season, but I’m enjoying it!

Re: Season 5 Episode 12: Three Bridges (5.12)
Thanks guys! Even when this version of MPI wasn’t totally what I wanted, I enjoyed the locations and the fact that I got more magnum. I saw the first few eps of season 5 and liked them, but then cut cable. Your positive takes have made me determined to see the rest of season 5, and hope somehow the ...

Re: Season 5 Episode 9: Out of Sight, Out of Mind (5.9)
Man, I’ve only watched this season sporadically, and often While cleaning in the kitchen or otherwise distracted…but I’ve really like this season and especially this episode! I’m finding the episodes this season fine to good, but I’m really liking how they’re teasing out the Buck Greene thing and th...

Re: Luther Gillis: File #521 (4.2)
Wow!!! This is one of those episodes I watched and kept thinking “this would never work today!”, but I still loved. It was a little cheesy…or a lot cheesy, but I still had so much fun with this one! I tried to give the magnum reboot a chance, but it never really clicked with me; this episode made me...

Re: Heal Thyself (3.12)
Between family and work, a lot of my TV watching is on my phone on the treadmill. In fact, that’s how I watch much of MPI, although I’ll often go back through the episode at home after reading through the threads if the clubs or locations are particularly interesting. So for China Beach, I bought th...

Re: Heal Thyself (3.12)
I rated this one a 9.0, and was surprised to see it’s average rating is so much lower than that. I think the criticisms presented are certainly valid (slow, disjointed, etc…) but I read Lynda Van Devanter’s book (_Home_Before_Morning_), and I really, really enjoyed learning about a nurse’s perspecti...

Re: Rest in Peace Roger E. Mosley
I was shocked to hear this! Even as a young kid remember seeing him on game or talk shows, and he was always so positive and complimentary of his co-stars.

Re: Double Jeopardy (2.19)
Man, I enjoyed this episode, but it was pretty distracting watching it as I kept thinking of Alex Baldwin in Rust. I was surprised to come to this thread and see nobody had mentioned it (granted, I’ve previously said I’m amazed that we get so much enjoyment out of MPI that we can comment more than a...

Re: The Jororo Kill (2.13)
I enjoyed this episode, and I thought it was interesting choice to reveal the assassins “secret” right off the bat. They did a great job with the costumes; I felt like it was really believable that he could pass himself off as a woman. I like learning more about VMO2’s time in Vietnam, and have Tyne...

Re: Memories Are Forever (1) (2.5)
It’s pretty convoluted, so I think you can be excused. She thinks Hue died and then lives a completely different life, which is kind of what happens to Magnum too. She’s catholic, educated, and part French (I assume?); generally I’d say she would come off as bourgeois elite. It seems particularly od...

Re: Memories Are Forever (1) (2.5)
In part 2, after Magnum gets caught trying to sneak into NIA, there’s a scene with General Hue and then a scene with Mac driving Col Greene and Magnum (who have all changed into civies—where did Magnum get the clothes?), and Col Greene explains it. Michelle thought Hue died during the Tet Offensive....
