Re: Why do you love Magnum, P.I.? What drew you to it?
My question is, why did Magnum stay in the military after Vietnam was over? Michelle "died" in April 1975 to the best of his knowledge. Why did he bother staying with the Navy until '79? You'd think Michelle's death would've been the breaking point for him. Also, am wondering how Magnum got station...

What sort of security work does Magnum do for the estate?
Yes, we see him the security systems in the pilot (was that his first day of work for Robin?) and at times Higgins will ask him to do this or that chore...But what do his duties actually entail on the estate? It doesn't seem like he really does much most of the time outside of the chores Higgins wil...

Re: Why do you love Magnum, P.I.? What drew you to it?
I have to agree about the disco vibe. I'm a retired Army Officer and a lot of the the smaller details drove me nuts, even in the evolved version. Every time I see Magnum ask Higgins how to tie a Windsor knot I have a mini meltdown. If you went to a service academy you know how to tie a Windsor. Mil...

Magnum, P.I. film reels/negatives question
Has anyone ever seen any of the original reels/negatives of the show?
I ask in query wondering if there's any extra room on the negative to create a 16x9 version without boom mikes and other such things being visible? Like they did with Friends.

I'm saying Magnum may have read National Review, but he was no culture warrior. He was no Pat Buchanan.MHTR wrote:Why are you equating conservatism with being judgmental?

Re: Why do you love Magnum, P.I.? What drew you to it?
Reagan's America doesn't really exist here Have to disagree with this because MPI screams 1980's style conservatism. I mean there's a scene where Thomas is reading The National Review ! That would NEVER happen on TV today and if it did, the reader would be ridiculed and accused of being a nut. pays...

Why didn't Hillerman have a bigger career?
He obviously had great acting chops, to be a 48 year old Texan portraying a 60 year old upper class British veteran and aristocrat. Why didn't Hillerman have the lead, or at least a major supporting role in any major picture?

Why do you love Magnum, P.I.? What drew you to it?
I was born in 1990, so the show was never on my radar as a kid. It was never part of the "Nick-at-Nite" lineup, which included some pretty amazing shows like Three's Company, The Brady Bunch and others. My parents were at BEST casual watchers of it - it wasn't a big deal to them, they never watched ...

Re: Timeline of each season?
Do we have any approximate date timelines (in-universe) for each season? IE Season 1 spans November-December 1980 through - ?? 1981 Season 8 spans January 1988 to January 1989?? That sort of thing. Hi MagnumFan, Do you mean within the series, to Thomas and the gang, when did events take place and h...

Magnum's mustache
Maybe it's just me, but Magnum's stache seems bushier, longer, a little less trimmed in the earlier seasons than in the final seasons. In the final seasons, it looks little different from how TS wears it today. I'm wondering what you prefer. Also, what season would you say it was at its longest/thic...

Magnum's dark side
A question: Having rewatched "Unfinished Business", we see Magnum's darker side. Underneath that charming beach bum exterior is, let's be honest, a somewhat jaded and hardened killer. I don't mean this to imply Magnum is a bad man - but he has things in common with James Bond. This is a guy who like...

Could a widescreen Magnum ever be made?
Friends, like Magnum, was shot in 4:3, and both were shot on 35mm film. Friends has successfully been transferred to widescreen (16:9) without any real picture loss; it looks great. Could the same be done to Magnum? Try cropping the screen to 16:9 if you have a TV that allows you to do this and tell...
